    Won the U.S. Amateur (1934-1935) and the British Amateur (1934-1935)
    Inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame (1980)

Why he might be annoying:

    He named his only son after himself.
    His professional career didn't live up to his high expectations.
    He had seven Top 10 finishes in the Masters Tournament and one Top 10 finish in the British Open, but he never won in any of them.
    He held more than 20 clubs in his bag which led to the 14-club limit to be in place by the United States Golf Association.
    He ditched his interest in golf to focus on stock market while the major championships were marred by World War II.

    He was considered as one of golf's all-time best amatuer golfers.
    He was instructed by golfer Ernest Jones to develop his golfing skills.
    He was the first golfer to win both the U.S. and the British Amateur championship in the same year twice in a row.
    He recorded a 32 match winning streak (1934-1935).
    He beat Gene Sarazen with a score of 70 in the 1940 U.S. Open to be the fifth golfer to win a U.S. Open and a U.S. Amateur championship.
