TV Series
    (September 21, 1968-August 26, 1975)
    A Mark VII Production
Martin Milner as Officer Pete Malloy (badge 744)
Kent McCord as Officer Jim Reed (badge 2430)
    William Boyett as Sergeant MacDonald
Gary Crosby as Officer Ed Wells
Shaaron Claridge as the voice of the Dispatcher
Created by Jack Webb & Robert A. Cinader
Premise: two uniformed police officers patrol the Los Angeles area dealing with crime and disputes
Until its waning months, there was very little continuity or character development.
Malloy was initially loosely based on Joe Friday from 'Dragnet.'
The acting often tended to be on the wooden side.
It spawned a dismal 1980's remake.
It never seemed to bother Malloy or Reed to be called ‘pigs’ (a slang term for a police officer).
    That hideous American Motors Matador!
The actress who gave voice as the dispatcher was named Shaaron.
Like Dragnet, it focused on the tedious and mundane aspects of their jobs — paperwork, issues within the precinct, interruptions of personal lives, et al. Even the cops themselves were wont to engage in shenanigans.
Unlike 'Dragnet,' it had multiple episode directors.
The dearth of continuity meant repeat episodes could be aired out of sequence with almost no problem.
Cases could be serious, banal, amusing, or even tragic.
It was called a G-rated version of COPS.
The 1970 episode entitled 'Elegy for a Pig' is among its best remembered.
Tidbit: The ‘211 in progress’ line heard in the opening credits indicates an armed robbery.
In Los Angeles, the first digit (1) indicates the division assigned. LAPD designates a 2-person patrol unit as 'Adam' and '12' was the beat area.
