Why he might be annoying:

According to biographer Ruy Castro, he lost his virginity to a goat.
He scandalized Brazil when he left his wife and children for samba singer Elza Soares.
Soares left him after he punched her in a drunken rage.
He was involved in several serious car crashes, including running over his father (1959) and plowing into a truck, killing his mother-in-law (1969).
After years of heavy drinking, he died of cirrhosis of the liver.

Why he might not be annoying:

He succeeded at soccer despite several birth defects, including a deformed spine, a right leg that bent inward and a left leg that was 2 inches shorter and curved outward.
The Brazilian national team only lost one game with him playing.
He was named Player of the Tournament at the 1962 World Cup.
Due to his popularity in Brazil, he was nicknamed 'Alegria do Povo' ('Joy of the People').
