    Born in Frankfort, Kentucky
    US Senator from New Mexico (1912-21)
    US Secretary of the Interior (1921-23)

Why he might be annoying:

    He resigned as district judge over allegations that he had allowed voter fraud in elections for the New Mexico territorial legislature (1895).
    He took $400,000 in bribes from oil company executives to lease the government oil reserve at Teapot Dome to private companies.
    He was sentenced to a year in prison, becoming the first cabinet officer to go to jail for his misconduct in office.

Why he might not be annoying:

    At age 11, he went to work in a cotton factory, developing respiratory problems that plagued him the rest of his life.
    He served as an infantry captain during the Spanish-American War.
    Two of his children died during the Spanish influenza epidemic (1918).
