Why he might be annoying:

His father was discharged from the army after he had hung three prisoners in his custody.
He only agreed to the vice presidency because of his loyalty to the party.
He was used as a balance to the Hoover ticket to attract farm votes, as Hoover was despised by farmers after his World War I stint as the 'Food Czar.'
He became arrogant and bitter as Vice President, often telling people he felt he should be occupying the White House, and to address him as the Vice President of the United States.
He took the office of the Vice President at 69 years old.

Why he might not be annoying:

He spoke French and Kansa before he spoke English.
His mother died around the time his father went into the Civil War.
He was one-half Native American.
His father was a loser and he often had to raise himself.
He spent his early childhood on a Kaw reservation where he grew up with many of the problems of frontier living.
He supported himself in college by working as a custodian.
He served Congress capably for over 30 years before becoming Vice President.
