The Resume

    (October 30, 1864- )

    Nicknamed the Queen City

Why Helena, Montana might be annoying:

Before being known as Helena, it was named Crabtown, Pumpkinville and Squashtown.
It should be pronounced Hel-E-na, after a Catholic saint, but Montanans pronounce it HELL-en-a.
It was devastated by fires in April of 1869, November of 1869, October of 1871, August of 1872 and January of 1874.
Many of the streets follow old miners' paths and thus wander irregularly and end abruptly.
It allegedly became state capital after copper magnate William A. Clark bribed the voters with cigars and whiskey.

Why Helena, Montana might not be annoying:

Lewis and Clark camped here (1804).
Not surprisingly, the city flag and seal feature the fire watch tower built in 1876.
During the 1880s, it was home to more millionaires per capita than any other city on earth.
It is home to the largest US dog sled race outside of Alaska.
