Why he might be annoying:

He destroyed his political career when the tabloids caught him with a prostitute (October, 1996).
He sued and won a libel suit against that tabloid, using an alibi of a friend.
A few years later, the friend came clean as said the alibi was concocted.
Archer was arrested and found guilty on four counts of perjury and perverting the course of justice.
He was sentenced to four years (July, 2001).

Why he might not be annoying:

After he lost all of his money and went into debt (when his investment in a Canadian firm folded), he resigned the House of Commons (1974).
Rather than go bankrupt and stiff his creditors he published a book that made him enough money to get out of debt.
In the '60s he enticed the Beatles to play a charity concert at Oxford College.
