Only about 450 of his plays survived.
He never let his two marriages or his joining the priesthood interfere with his womanizing.
His attacks on the family of one of his ex-lovers got him jailed for libel, then exiled for eight years.
His last words, after being assured that the end was near, were 'All right then, I'll say it: Dante makes me sick.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He survived serving in the Spanish Armada.
His son Lope died in a shipwreck.
He wrote 'The Lovelorn Forest,' considered the first Spanish opera.
He is considered second only to Miguel de Cervantes in Spanish literature.
