He is remembered for being the pitcher who surrendered Mark McGwire's 62nd home run, which broke Roger Maris's record (1998).
He came off as being a sore loser, when he said he wasn't happy that his teammates shook McGwire's hand after the home run.
He led the major leagues in losses during the 1999 season.
He was a journeyman player following his first departure from the Cubs.
He was the first pitcher in Mets history to surrender four home runs in one inning.

He was a member of the Long Beach State University team that reached the College World Series (1991).
He was the ace on the Cubs pitching staff during the mid and late-1990's, making one All-Star appearance.
