The Resume

Why he might be annoying:

His tenure as the Rockies general manager was defined by his inability to evaluate talent, and figure out a long-term direction for his team.
His hiring can be credited to the trend of MLB teams hiring Ivy League alums rather than experienced baseball people to run the team operations.
He did nothing to build up the Rockies farm system, which was considered one of the worst in baseball when he was hired.
He developed a reputation for trading away the Rockies homegrown stars, rather than give them a long-term contract extension.
He was involved in a public spat with Rockies star Nolan Arenado, when Arenado made it known he wanted to be traded.
In order to resolve the Arenado mess and attempt to save face, he accepted a lowball offer from the St. Louis Cardinals which drew scorn from baseball pundits.

Why he might not be annoying:

He played both catcher and outfield for the baseball team at Harvard.
He oversaw the operations of the Arizona Fall League during his tenure at the MLB offices.
He started out overseeing the Rockies minor league operations and gradually worked his way up to the general manager position.
He was the architect of the Rockies teams that made playoff appearances in consecutive years (2017-18).
He must have done something to impress ownership, as he was able to maintain his position long-term, no matter how bad of a roster he assembled.
