The Resume

    (July 27, 1956- )
    Born in Chicago, Illinois
Administrative assistant and assistant general manager for the Chicago White Sox (1978-86)
Director of player development and general manager for the Montreal Expos (1988-91)
General manager for the Florida Marlins (1991-2001) and the Detroit Tigers (2002-15)
President of baseball operations for the Boston Red Sox (2016-19)

Why he might be annoying:

He never played a game of baseball at any level.
He developed a reputation for giving out long term contracts to star players who are in the late stages of their careers.
He has a habit of building his teams around older veterans.
He was forced to trade away the majority of the players he acquired for the Marlins World Series winning team in a fire sale (1997-98 offseason).
The Tiger teams he assembled were good, but not good enough to win a World Series.
He was fired by the Red Sox less then a year after he built the World Series winning team (September 6, 2019).

Why he might not be annoying:

He got his start in baseball working for his hometown White Sox.
He was considered the architect of building the Expos farm system in the 1980's that had the likes of Larry Walker amongst others.
He was the first general manager in the history of the Marlins franchise.
He was credited for building both the Marlins World Series winning teams, as he acquired the foundation for the 2003 team in the years following his dismantling of the 1997 team.
He successfully rebuilt the Tigers farm system after it was decimated by years of bad drafting and trades.
