Why he might be annoying:

    He was nicknamed 'Long Ball Show' by Padre fans, due to his tendency to surrender home runs in crucial games.
    He was a member of the John Birch Society.
    He frequently abused cocaine and heroin.
    He claimed he injured his hands climbing a fence after being chased by kids, when in reality, he was being chased by the police for behaving erratically outside an adult video store (1992).
    He surrendered Pete Rose's 4192nd record setting career hit, which prompted his teammate Graig Nettles to say 'The Birch Society is going to expel Eric for making a Red famous.'

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was a jazz guitar player, and would often beat his teammates back to the hotel on road trips to play with the bands who were performing.
    He majored in physics at the University of California, Riverside.
    Outside of baseball, he was known to have a large real estate investment portfolio.
    He was considered a generous man by his closest friends.
    He was married for 16 years, prior to his death.
