The Resume

    (March 28, 1836-January 1, 1904)
    Born in Nicholausreich, Germany
Birth name was Johann Gottleib Friedrich Pabst
    Emigrated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Bought half share of the Philip Best Brewing Company (1864)
Renamed company Pabst Brewing Company (1889)

Why he might be annoying:

He was a ship's captain until he ran his boat aground (December, 1863)
He was able to buy half of the brewery because he was Philip Best's son-in-law.
His brewery's signature Pabst Blue Ribbon brand was allegedly named for its win as 'America's Best' at the 1893 Columbian Exposition, but there is considerable doubt whether any such award was given.

Why he might not be annoying:

His beers did win honors at the Philadelphia Centennial Exposition (1876) and Paris World's Fair (1878).
He made the brewery into the world's largest and the first to produce a million barrels of beer in a single year (1892).
He established the Pabst Theater in Milwaukee and a traveling library for the city's German immigrants.
