He chose a dangerous career despite having a wife and children.
Gene Cernan and Harrison Schmidt complained of his snoring while on the launch pad of their Apollo 17 mission.
He overslept by an hour mid-flight of his Apollo 17 mission despite mission controls efforts to wake him.

He served his country in Vietnam.
His patriotism earned him the nickname 'Captain America' from his fellow astronauts.
He studied Lunar geography for Apollo 17 until he knew the Moon's surface like the back of his hand.
He called his job as an astronaut 'The best job in the world.'
He died of a heart attack.
