Mascot

The Resume

    (September 22, 2008- )
    Born in Johannesburg, South Africa
Official mascot of the 2010 World Cup
    An anthromorphic leopard
Has a fictional birth date of June 16, 1994
Had a comic strip leading up to the World Cup

Why Zakumi might be annoying:

He's not as cute as most mascots.
He dyed his hair green so that he'd be camouflaged against the soccer field.
He often fools about, teases others and has the tendency to exaggerate a bit.
Manufacturing of figurines of his likeness was outsourced to a plastics factory in China with sweatshop-like conditions.

Why Zakumi might not be annoying:

He's more bold and athletic than cute.
His fictional birthdate coincides with South Africa's Youth Day and his fictional birth year is the year Nelson Mandela was elected president.
He symbolizes South Africa and the rest of the African continent through his self-confidence, pride, hospitality, social skills and warm-heartedness
He's an excellent World Cup mascot as he plays soccer with the passion of a player, the fun spirit of a child and the fierceness of a leopard.
