The Resume

    (May 11, 1875-July 1, 1912)
    Born in Arcadia, Michigan
First American woman to earn a pilot's license (August 1, 1911)
First woman to fly across the English Channel (April 16, 1912)

Why she might be annoying:

She wore a purple flying outfit to promote Vin Fiz grape soda.
Her crossing of the Channel was largely unnoticed due to coverage of the Titanic sinking.
Just before her last flight, she told reporters, 'I have no intention of coming down in the water. I'm a cat and I don't like the water.'
She was not wearing a seatbelt and when her plane pitched forward unexpectedly she was thrown from the cockpit, falling into Boston Bay.

Why she might not be annoying:

Before taking up flying, she was a successful reporter and theater critic for 'Leslie's Illustrated Weekly.'
She wrote seven screenplays that were made into short films by D.W. Griffith.
She encouraged women to follow the same pursuits as men.
