Why he might be annoying:

    Edith Wharton branded him 'a sort of half-crazy cad.'
    He smoked opium and snorted cocaine.
    He and wife Caresse participated in champagne-soaked orgies.
    He slept with young boys and girls.
    He maintained an affair with Josephine Rotch Bigelow, whom he dubbed the 'Fire Princess.'
    The couple spent one final weekend sexing and drugging before he shot her, then turned the gun on himself.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He received the Croix de Guerre for volunteering as an ambulance driver during World War I.
    He rejected the family banking business, but not wealth, to pursue his literary dreams.
    He proved a keen observer of new writing talent.
    Hart Crane, D.H. Lawrence, James Joyce and Ezra Pound were among the artists published by Black Sun.
    His books were known for elegant design and beautiful illustrations.
