Hockey Player

The Resume

    (January 14, 1904-August 25, 1939)
    Born in Plattsville, Ontario, Canada
Birth name was Charles Albert Siebert
Left winger and defenseman for the Montreal Maroons (1925-32), New York Rangers (1932-33), Boston Bruins (1933-36) and Montreal Canadiens (1936-39)
Won the Hart Trophy as most valuable player (1937)
Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame (1964)

Why he might be annoying:

He was suspended following a fight in which he repeatedly struck Billy Boucher of the New York Americans with his stick (December, 1927).
He beat Eddie Shore bloody while a fellow Maroon held Shore down (November 23, 1929).
Not too surprisingly, when they were teammates on the Bruins, he and Shore refused to speak to each other.
After he announced his retirement from playing, he was named the Canadiens' head coach, but he never got to take up the post.
He drowned while trying to retrieve a drifting inner tube.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was one of the few hockey players to be successful on both offense and defense.
His wife was paralyzed below the waist following complications during the birth of their second child (1929).
He did the housework she was unable to do and carried her to her seat at the Montreal Forum before each home game.
Nearly all his income went to paying for her medical care.
The NHL held a benefit -- Canadiens vs all-stars from the other teams -- to raise $15,000 for his widow and two daughters.
