Her second husband, Constantinus, was proclaimed Emperor of the Western Roman Empire, but only ruled a few months.
She gradually lost influence to the Roman general Aetius.

Her husband, Athaulf, was murdered by a servant.
Her first son died in infancy.
She ruled as regent for her second son, Emperor Valentinian III, from 425 to 437.
She endowed a lot of churches.
Her mausoleum in Ravenna is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
