Why he might be annoying:

He was very narrow and rigid in his thinking.
He did not get along with his four sons.
He changed the royal family's name from Saxe-Coburg-Gotha to Windsor during World War I, in response to anti-German sentiment (the royal family was of largely German ancestry).
He refused political asylum to his first cousin, Tsar Nicholas II, leaving the tsar and his family to be captured and killed by Communists.

Why he might not be annoying:

As prince, he served in the navy and achieved the rank of commander.
He became the heir to the throne when his older brother, Prince Eddy died.
He agreed to marry Prince Eddy's fiancee, Princess Victoria Mary of Teck.
He served a crucial role as a mediator during a major constitutional crisis in 1910.
He visited British troops during World War I.
During one of these visits, he suffered a broken pelvis when a horse fell on him; as a result, he was in constant pain for the rest of his life.
