Why he might be annoying:

His first AWA Heavyweight Title reign lasted 5 years, but that's mostly because his matches usually ended with him getting disqualified to keep the title.
Before a match with Stan Hansen, Hansen, after being told that he would lose the AWA Title that night to Bockwinkel, left the arena with the title, refusing to job to Bockwinkel.
There were two occasions where he was just given the AWA Heavyweight Title and there were even matches where he was pinned but was able to keep the title due to a technicality.
He guest-starred on 'The Monkees.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He won his first of four AWA Heavyweight Titles by ending Verne Gagne's record 7-year title run.
His first AWA Heavyweight Title lasted 5 years, which is a rare length for a heel.
He made history by putting his title on the line in the first ever AWA vs. WWF title unification match.
He and Ray Stevens were named Tag Team of the Year in PWI in 1973.
He's ranked #24 in Total Wrestling Magazine's 100 Greatest Heels of All-Time.
He's a member of the The Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame and the Wrestling-Observer Hall of Fame.
