Actress

The Resume

    (October 4, 1938- )
    Born in Paw Paw, Michigan
Birth name is Loretta Mae Moore
Portrayed Susan Robinson on Sesame Street (1969- )
Provided voice work for Sesame Street and recorded several albums singing songs from the show

Why she might be annoying:

Her U-Mass dissertation was called 'Sesame Street: A Space Age Approach to Education for Space Age Kids.'
She auditioned for Sesame Street by singing 'I'm a Little Tea Pot.'
She was cast although she claimed that the producers had been looking for a Joan Baez-type who could play the guitar (she couldn't).
She recorded an album singing Sesame Street songs and it was nominated for a Grammy - she lost to Joan Ganz Cooney for another Sesame Street recording.
Working as a substitute teacher, she caused confusion for some students who had watched her on Sesame Street that morning before she walked into their classroom later the same day.

Why she might not be annoying:

She broke ground for African-American women in children's programming.
She earned her PHD in Education from the University of Massachusetts.
She performed in summer stock productions of Sweet Charity and Guys & Dolls.
Her 'Susan Sings Songs from Sesame Street' album reached #86 on Billboard's Top LP's chart.
In early seasons, her character was a housewife, but her role later expanded to Susan becoming a nurse.
Her and Gordon Robinson's adopting a child in a 1986 episode was one of the first television portrayals of an adoptive family.
She was hit by a car crossing the street in East Windsor, New Jersey (she made a full recovery with minor head wounds).
As of 2020, she is one of only two cast members who has been with Sesame Street since the show's beginning (the other being Bob McGrath).
