He ran the bases backwards when he hit his 100th home run and was released from his team shortly thereafter.
He suffered from a mental illness and had to stay in mental hospitals during his playing days.
He considered going nuts in his rookie season the best thing that ever happened to him due to the publicity.
He would take bows after making a catch.
He fought Billy Martin before a 1952 game.
He made pig noises at Satchel Paige, which led to Paige beaning him with pitches.
He would challenge Yankee Stadium fans to fights.
He once threw an orange at Comiskey Park's exploding scoreboard.
He was often fired from later work because of his inappropriate comments.

Why he might not be annoying:

He once got 6 hits in a game, an American League record.
He once said: 'I have not made an awful lot of friends in my lifetime, but my dad once told me that if you have too many friends you become a follower.'
He provided baseball fans a lot of entertainment with his antics.
