Why he might be annoying:

    He yodeled.
One critic wrote, ‘No true country singer would dare do to a Hank Williams number what Frank Ifield has done to 'Lovesick Blues'.’ (Specifically, what Ifield did to the song was give it an upbeat ‘Twist’-style arrangement.)
He was a one-hit wonder in the US, where ‘I Remember You’ was his only Top 40 song.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the second singer – following Elvis Presley -- to have three consecutive singles hit #1 in Britain.
He sang at a Royal Variety Performance (1962).
When he made his debut at the Grand Ole Opry, he was introduced by one of his musical heroes, Hank Snow (1963).
His vocal cords were damaged by a bout of pneumonia (1986), leaving him unable to sing for a couple of years as he recovered.
