Why he might be annoying
He designed greeting cards for a living.
He dropped out of high school to become pursue a painting career.
His family immigrated to the US illegally under assumed identities as 'paper sons' of Chinese-American sponsors.
He had a part in traumatizing generations of kids by contributing to the realistic imagery of Bambi (the forest fire, death of Bambi's mom, the fight with Rhonno, etc.).
It looked like he would have a promising career with Disney Studios, but was fired as a consequence of the 1941 Disney animators' strike (even though he never actually joined in the walk-out).
He turned down an offer from executives in the mid-nineties to be a design consultant for 'Mulan' (which never reached its full potential as a result).
Why he might not be annoying
He lost contact with his mother and sister shortly after emigrating to Angel Island, in 1920 (he never saw them again).
He worked as a school janitor before making it in Hollywood.
He received a summer scholarship to the Otis Art Institute.
He drew inspiration from the Song Dynasty for his work on 'Bambi.'
The extent of his contribution to 'Bambi' would remain unknown for years (he was merely credited as a 'background artist' in the opening credits).
He did concept art for 'Rebel Without a Cause,' 'Sands of Iwo Jima,' 'The Wild Bunch,' 'The Green Berets,' and 'Around the World in Eighty Days.'
He received a History Makers (in the Arts) Award by the Chinese American Museum (2001).
In his later years, he was a skilled kite maker and ceramic painter.
He took a fifteen year hiatus from his work to care for his wife, who suffered from dementia, which he did until her death.
