Why he might be annoying:

He tried to join the Royal Marines, but dropped out after three months of training.
He then tried to join the Army, but lasted only two days.
He also applied unsuccessfully to join the police and the fire department.
When arrested, he told officers, ‘I wanted to be famous. I wanted to be a somebody.’
He was inspired by Mark David Chapman’s immediate notoriety after killing John Lennon.
In his diary, he wrote, ‘I am going to stun and mystify the whole world with nothing more than a gun - I will become the most famous teenager in the world.’

Why he might not be annoying:

He had been a local patrol leader in the scouts.
He was unable to get ammo for his father’s .455 revolver or a gun of his own.
The shots startled the Queen’s horse, but she was able to quickly bring it under control.
He wrote a letter from prison apologizing to the Queen, and never got a reply.
After his release, he changed his name and started a new life.
