The Resume

    (November 25, 1847-May 7, 1924)
    Born in Morrow County, Ohio
    Grocer turned fish packer
Founded the Southern California Fish Company (1893) and the Halfhill Tuna Packing Company (1911)
Made canned albacore tuna more palatable by steaming the meat and replacing the fish oil with vegetable oil (1907)
Coined the slogan 'chicken of the sea' to promote canned tuna (later trademarked by the Van Camp Seafood Company)

Why he might be annoying:

He started canning sardines, developing an interest in tuna only after the sardine harvest off the coast of Southern California failed in 1903.
He initially sold his tuna without identifying what kind of fish was in the can.
He made albacore tuna so popular that it eventually became a victim of overfishing.
His 'chicken of the sea' slogan would confuse the dickens out of Jessica Simpson.

Why he might not be annoying:

He moved to California for a more favorable climate when his wife's health began to fail (1892).
In order to promote tuna to a skeptical public, he had grocers give away cans with coffee.
He was given the honorary title 'Captain' by his competitors.
Before he made albacore tuna popular, fisherman nicknamed it 'the hog of the sea'; let's face it, Jessica would have looked just as ditzy wondering to Nick if she was eating tuna or pork.
