Why she might be annoying:

She said about growing up, 'I was a dreadful tomboy and used to fight the lads.'
She was a child star, competing in talent shows at age 8 and turning professional at 10.
She originally auditioned for 'Coronation Street' for the role of Hilda Ogden, but the producers wanted a slimmer actress and went with Jean Alexander instead (1964).
She injured her back throwing her co-star for a scene in the TV show 'Pardon the Expression' and retired from show biz to run a pub with her sister (1966).
Although her 'Coronation Street' character was known for her hotpot (a traditional lamb dish), in real life she was a vegetarian.

Why she might not be annoying:

She was pushed into show biz by her mother. ('I think she was a frustrated performer herself.')
When she turned 21, she discovered that her parents had spent almost all the money she had earned.
She traveled through Europe entertaining the troops in WWII.
She had a miscarriage and then had to undergo a hysterectomy.
One of the producers of 'Coronation Street' was a regular at the pub she and her sister ran and persuaded her to come out of retirement.
She appeared on 'Coronation Street' for four decades and said, 'So as long as they want me, I'm happy to stay. The Street is like home and they really are my family.'
