Doctor

The Resume

    (October 31, 1935-July 2, 2012)
    Born in Tel Aviv, Israel
Arrested as a child by the Nazis in front of the Hotel Polski on July 13, 1943
Liberated by American troops at Bergen-Belsen concentration camp on April 13, 1945
Later moved to Rockland County, New York and found work as a Doctor
Claimed to be the child with his arms raised in the famous 'Warsaw Ghetto uprising' photo

Why he might be annoying:

He is one of at least four individuals who has claimed to be the identity of the terrified boy in the photo.
While many organizations cite him as the Boy, analysts claim it is not possible based on the discrepancies between his testimony and the photo itself.
For example, the photo was believed to have taken place inside the Warsaw Ghetto. The Polski Hotel was located outside the Ghetto (Nussbaum and his family also lived outside of the Ghetto, on the 'Aryan Side' of Warsaw, prior to their arrest).
Other indicators include that the Hotel roundups occurred in a courtyard (whereas the photo clearly takes place on the street) and that his arrest took place in July (while the uprising during which the photo was taken only lasted into April).
A comparison with Nussbaum's 1945 passport photograph by forensics revealed that Nussbaum had detached earlobes, unlike the boy in the photograph.
As of 2020, the identity and whereabouts of the real 'Warsaw Ghetto Boy' remain unknown. (Sadly, considering that it is known all of the arrested Jews in the photograph were deported to Treblinka shortly after it was taken, it is almost a certainty that the boy was murdered.)

Why he might not be annoying:

His family left Palestine and returned to their hometown in Poland because of the conflicts between Jewish settlers and native Arabs, only for Poland to be invaded by the Germans a year after their arrival.
By late 1942, both of his parents and his brother had been killed by the Nazis.
He and his surviving relatives had valid Palestinian visas, but fell into the 'Hotel Polski trap' in which the Germans promised safe passage out of occupied Europe, only to arrest them outside the Hotel.
He nearly died from malnutrition during the Typhus epidemic of Bergen-Belsen, but was saved by a doctor during the liberation by the British.
After living in Israel for eight years, he moved to the United States. He later studied medicine and became an otolaryngologist with a private practice in New York City.
He survived the Holocaust despite being arrested at the age of seven, which is itself miraculous.
He was never completely positive that he was the Boy in the photo, and said: 'I think it’s me, but I can’t honestly swear to it. A million and a half Jewish children were told to raise their hands.'
