    He is one of the original quack 'TV health experts,' laying the groundwork for charlatans like Dr. Oz.
    He attempted to infringe on Jane Fonda's workout video market.
    He starred in a home-exercise VHS for pregnant women.
    His reports were based less on actual medical research than on providing basic 'life coach advice.'
    He briefly pulled a Johnny Damon by leaving the ratings-dominant NBC to be a correspondent for ABC's 'Home' program with Good Morning America (he later returned to 'Today').

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was a faculty member at the University of Southern California Medical School, specializing in gynecologic oncology.
    He worked behind the scenes on two television news series on breast cancer and weight management before joining 'Today.'
    He and Jeffrey Reiss founded Cable Health Network, in 1981. It was the first and only 24 hour a day TV network dedicated to health, but it was unable to find its niche and ended prematurely.
    He climbs mountains for a hobby.
    His own syndicated series, 'Feeling Fine,' was broadcst in more than 100 cities.
    His segments covered topics ranging from dealing with cancer to smoking cessation.
