Why they might be annoying:

They were originally called the Brethren until they discovered an American band was using the name.
They were one-hit wonders in the US, where 'Run for Home' made the lower reaches of the Top 40.
After going over a decade without a hit single, they teamed up with soccer player Paul Gascoigne to record a new version of 'Fog on the Tyne' (1990).
Songwriters Hull and Jackson split over Jackson's refusal to appear in the video for 'Fog on the Tyne (Revisited).'
Jackson admitted that they never reconciled before Hull's sudden death in 1995.

Why they might not be annoying:

AllMusic described their sound as 'somewhere between Fairport Convention and the early Grateful Dead.'
Jackson played mandolin on Rod Stewart's single 'Maggie May' and album 'Every Picture Tells a Story.' (Although the album credit read, 'The mandolin was played by the mandolin player in Lindisfarne. The name slips my mind.')
Their 'Fog on the Tyne' album topped the British charts, attracting enough attention that their debut album then made a belated entry into the Top 10.
They remained a popular live act even as record sales fell off.
