The Resume

    (October 26, 1902-August 17, 1994)
    Born in Binghampton, New York
Birth name was Joseph Paul Zukauskas
    38 wins, 14 losses, 3 draws
    World heavyweight champ (1932-33)

Why he might be annoying:

One of his nicknames was 'the Boston Gob.'
    He was boastful.
    He was an erratic boxer.
He lost a title fight to Max Schmeling by disqualification for hitting below the belt (1930).
He was widely rumored to have taken a dive in his loss to Primo Carnera (1933).

Why he might not be annoying:

He was outpointing Jack Dempsey in a fight to determine who would face Gene Tunney for the heavyweight title when Dempsey delivered a possible low blow. When he turned to the referee to complain and let his guard down, Dempsey took advantage of the opening to deliver a KO to the chin.
He was wiling to face anyone, becoming the only boxer to face both Jack Dempsey and Joe Louis.
After retiring from boxing, he had careers as a bar owner and a referee.
While demonstrating fly fishing at the New York Sportsman Show (1965), he was asked if he preferred it to boxing. He replied, 'It doesn't pay as much, but then the fish don't hit back.'
