It was not a stretch for Tony Randall and Jack Klugman to portray their characters, as they were very much like that in real life.
The opening narration was written by executive producer, Garry Marshall, which begins with 'On November 13th...' November 13th is Garry's birthday.
Murray the cop was given the last name Greshler, the same as Tony Randall and Jack Klugman's agent Abbey Greshler's last name.
