    Born in Edmonton, Canada
    Canadian scifi author
    Winner of three Hugo Awards and one Nebula Award
    Most well known for his Childe Cycle and Dragon Knight series
    Wrote 55 novels and over 100 short stories
    Received a BA in Creative Writing from the University of Minnesota

Why he might be annoying:

    Only one of his works have been filmed; The Dragon and the George was made into the cartoon Flight of the Dragons.
    His middle name was Rupert.

Why he might not be annoying:

    Despite being a life long asthma sufferer (which would eventually kill him) he lived a full life.
    He served in WWII.
    He won his three Hugos in three different categories: best short story, best novella and best novelette.
    He did some excellent collaborations with some of the best writers in science fiction like Andre Norton, Ben Bova, and his best friend Poul Anderson.
