Premise: Focuses on the misadventures of a young Latina from Queens who aspires to be a singer and actress, along with her family and friends
Why Taina (TV Show) might be annoying
At 20, Christina Vidal was supposed to be a 14 year-old high school freshman.
Plots regularly showcased Taina's vain Lucy-esque schemes to achieve stardom.
Nick Cannon guested both as himself in an episode and then in drag as his All That alter ego - LaTanya - in the second season.
Maritza Hogg's diva-like bitchiness actually won her a cult following among fans of the show ('I looove raining on YOUR parade!')
So during the fantasy-cut-to-reality musical numbers, was she actually singing and dancing around random locations before realizing that it was just a daydream?
Production costs became more demanding when shooting moved from Universal Studios Orlando to Hollywood (in particular, the elaborate dance numbers grew more expensive to stage).
An episode revealed Taina had a stalker-level crush on the Menudo take-off band MDO (yeah - that was really a thing once).
Why Taina (TV Show) might not be annoying
It was ripped off shamelessly by Victorious.
Melissa Joan Hart and Kim Fields directed episodes.
It was ahead of its time in depicting a strong Latina character as the lead protagonist.
Despite securing record ratings for the network, it was unceremoniously cancelled by Nick at the end of its second season.
It included among its guest stars Luis Fonsi and Shakira.
It was a culturally woke show, and early episodes saw her explore her Hispanic heritage (she is descended from the Taino Indians of Puerto Rico, hence the name).
The school principal was played by Cristina Saralegui - Univision's own Latina Oprah - in a handful of episodes.
Its theme song was catchy to the point where some kids knew it by heart without actually watching the show itself.
