Chef

The Resume

    (December 15, 1980- )
    Born in Montreal, Canada
    Washington, D.C.-based chef and restaurateur
Birth name is Evangelos Spiros Mendelsohn
Author of 'The Good Stuff Cookbook' (2010)
Finished 5th place in the fourth season of the reality TV competition Top Chef: Chicago (2008)
Owner of the restaurants Good Stuff Eatery, Béarnaise and We, The Pizza
Regular correspondent for The Early Show on CBS, in the summer of 2011
Also appeared on Bravo's 'Life After Top Chef,' 'Top Chef: All Stars,' Food Network's 'Iron Chef America,' VH-1's 'Big Morning Buzz Live,' and Spike TV's 'Bar Rescue'

Why he might be annoying:

    Three words: Prez Obama Burger.
He gave dating tips in a Cosmopolitan Magazine piece.
He was never without his straw fedora in his early TV appearances.
His restaurant, Béarnaise, received only two stars from the Washington Post.
He was conceived as the obligatory 'villain' for his debut 'Top Chef' season.
The internet exploded over his cooking with frozen sea scallops as a protein in his 'Top Chef' challenge (which led to his being eliminated).
He subsequently turned on the Restaurant owner and guest judge, accusing him of planting them in the freezer.
When it was revealed that, actually, the producers had planted the Scallops, he lashed out at them, too, claiming that everything in the freezer 'should have been top notch.'

Why he might not be annoying:

    He's skilled at juggling.
He may be the reigning king of tailgating in the D.C./Baltimore area.
He has a rare culinary mastery over the art of both the art of pizza and the burger.
He graduated from the Culinary Institute of America.
He honed his craft by working with Gerard Boyer at Les Crayeres, Thomas Keller at Bouchon, and working at The Maccioni Family's Le Cirque.
He managed to weather the 'Scallop-gate' storm and make a steady career for himself as a celebrity chef.
He made a good impression in a feel-good Valentine's Day segment of Queen Latifah's underrated (and short-lived) talk show.
His D.C. restaurants are a favorite of President Obama and the First Lady, who regularly come by with members of the Administration (the President even celebrated his birthday there, one year).
He co-started a lunchtime kosher food truck project with Sixth & I Historic Synagogue, featuring traditional Jewish dishes of knishes and corn beef sandwiches.
