    Born in Hunterdon County, New Jersey
    Commanded Morgan's Riflemen during the American Revolution
    Notable battles included Quebec (1775), Saratoga (1777) and Cowpens (1781)
    Returned to military service during the Whiskey Rebellion (1794)
    Served one term as Representative from Virginia's 1st District (1797-99)
    Namesake for Morgan Counties in West Virginia, Alabama, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Ohio and Tennessee

Why he might be annoying:

    He ran away from home at 16 after an argument with his father.
    As a young man, he was a drinker, gambler and brawler.
    While serving as a civilian teamster during the French and Indian War, he punched out a British officer.
    During the invasion of Canada, he and Benedict Arnold nearly came to blows in a dispute over rations.
    He owned slaves.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He survived a usually fatal punishment of 499 lashes after striking the British officer.
    After recruiting a rifle company of 96 volunteers in Virginia, he marched them 600 miles in only 21 days to join the Continental Army outside Boston (July 15-August 6, 1775).
    During the Battle of Quebec, he developed sciatica that plagued him for the rest of his life.
    His successful luring of Banastre Tarleton's cavalry into a trap at the Battle of Cowpens prompted one historian to call him 'the only general in the American Revolution, on either side, to produce a significant original tactical thought.'
    British General William Howe said that Morgan's men were the most dangerous regiment in the Continental Army.
