    Appeared in 'Radio Days' (1987), 'The End of Innocence' (1990), 'Ruby in Paradise' (1993), 'Twister' (1996), 'Eyes Wide Shut' (1999) and 'Stranger Than Fiction' (2000)

Why he might be annoying:

    He dropped out of college to go to New York and study acting.
    He lost out to Tim Roth for the part of Mr. Orange in 'Resevoir Dogs.'
    He gives his children parts in his films.
    Although 'In the Bedroom' was a best picture nominee at both the Oscars and the Golden Globes, neither organization nominated his directing.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He considered director Stanley Kubrick and author Andre Dubus his mentors and was devastated when they died within two weeks of each other, just before filming began on 'In the Bedroom,' which was based on Dubus' story 'Killings.'
    'In the Bedroom' earned him an Independent Spirit Award for best first feature and the National Board of Review's award for best director.
    The New York Times called him 'among the most literary of American filmmakers.'
