The Resume

    (January 1897-October 1968)
    Born in Freeport, Illinois
    Science fiction author
Believed to be the first woman to publish science fiction under her own name
Complete works are collected in 'Away From the Here and Now'
Published a list of sixteen themes in/of science fiction in 1931 in an attempt to define the sci fi genre

Why she might be annoying:

She had only a tiny body of work published, one novel and less than a dozen short stories.
None of her work has ever been filmed.
Her and her legacy are virtually unknown today even among knowledgeable science fiction fans.

Why she might not be annoying:

Being the first woman to have science fiction published under her own name is kind of a big deal since other women such as Andre Norton had to use male or androgynous pen names well into the sixties.
Her stories featured strong female characters.
Her first story was published in 1926 before the term science fiction was even widely used.
Her works are surprisingly available through 'Away From the Here and Now' and numerous collections.
