Recorded the singles 'That's the Way I Feel About Cha' (1972), 'Woman's Gotta Have It' (1972), 'Harry Hippie' (1973), 'Nobody Wants You When You're Down and Out' (1973), 'Lookin' for a Love' (1974), 'Check It Out' (1975), 'Daylight' (1976), 'If You Think You're Lonely Now' (1982), 'Love Has Finally Come at Last' (with Patti Labelle, 1984) and 'I Wish He Didn't Trust Me So Much' (1985)
Composed the score for the blaxploitation film 'Across 110th Street' (1973)
Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (2009)

Why he might be annoying:

His promising career in the 60s was derailed by controversy after he married Sam Cooke's widow only three months after the funeral.
Many of the tracks on his 70s albums feature spoken monologues.
He admits, 'I went the drug route and craziness, along with some crazy people.'
When he recorded a country album, he planned to title it 'Step Aside Charlie Pride, Give Another Nigger a Try.' (He eventually settled for 'B.W. Goes C&W.')

Why he might not be annoying:

His songs became hits for The Rolling Stones ('It's All Over Now'), Wilson Pickett ('I'm In Love') and George Benson ('Breezin').
He dedicated 'Harry Hippie' to his brother, who was stabbed to death by his girlfriend.
His son Truth died at age four months.
Britain's Blues and Soul magazine named him best male singer, best songwriter and best live performer (1981).
