Why he might be annoying:

    The ‘e’ and the ‘u’ in his last name were switched by producer Howard Hughes, who worried people would otherwise pronounce it like ‘beetle.’.
    He was married five times, divorced four times.
    One review of ‘The Outlaw’ called him ‘one of the least talented actors in movie history.’
    After ‘The Outlaw,’ he would not make another film for eight years.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He served in the US Navy during World War II.
    He was working as an insurance clerk when he was spotted by a talent agent who was impressed with his looks.
    Director Howard Hawks wanted him to costar in ‘Red River’ (1948), but Hughes refused to lend him out to another studio. As a result, Montgomery Clift made his screen debut in the role.
