    Real name: Salvatore Albert Lombino
    Author most well known for the 87th Precinct books
    Screenwriter for The Birds and The Blackboard Jungle
    Also wrote the Matthew Hope mystery novels

Why he might be annoying:

    He changed his real name to Evan Hunter, one of his many pen names, but is most well known by the pen name Ed McBain.
    He quit his job as a teacher after 17 days.
    He wrote under a half a dozen pen names.
    He wrote one of his novels, Candyland, using two of his pen names and pretending it was a collaboration between two different writers.
    He was married three times.

    He served in the navy during WWII.
    He wrote in several distinctly different styles and genres.
    The 87th Precinct books inspired outstanding television shows like Hill Streets Blues and NYPD Blue.
    He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Hunter College.

    He's sold millions and millions of books.
