Why he might be annoying:

He admitted to heavily abusing drugs in the 1970s.
He and Dave Prater famously didn't get along offstage.
When Dave Prater started touring with Sam Daniels as 'Sam and Dave,' after the two broke up, Moore successfully got a legal injunction to stop it.
He reworked the lyrics of 'Soul Man' when he performed at a campaign event for Bob Dole to be 'I'm a Dole Man' (the publisher was not amused and threatened legal action).
He sent a cease and desist letter to the Barack Obama campaign to stop the use of his material at campaign rallies, but then performed at one of his Inaugural events months later.

He had amazing onstage chemistry with Dave.
He re-recorded 'Soul Man' with Lou Reed for the film of the same name. Their duet reached #30 on the UK Singles Chart.
He overcame his drug addiction and became a strong anti-drug volunteer advocate.
He brought Dave's eldest son onstage at his Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony as a tribute to his partner.
His solo album, recorded in 2006 after a 35 year absence, was a star-studded event (see Sam and Dave for the full lineup).
He had a role in 'Blues Brothers 2000' (the original was heavily influenced by the Sam and Dave sound).
He sang 'America the Beautiful' at President Donald Trump's inaugural concert, stating that he was 'honored' and would not give in to outside pressure to cancel his performance.
