Why he might be annoying:

    As a child, he was cut from most of the teams he tried out for.
    He got his break into hockey by playing on a midget hockey team his father coached.
    He signed an offer sheet with the Philadelphia Flyers as a restricted free agent in order to receive a substantial pay raise from the Canucks.
    Despite being considered a potential captaincy candidate, he was passed over in favor of Roberto Luongo when the team's captaincy became vacant.
    He cried like a schoolgirl after his United States team lost in the Gold Medal Game at the Olympics (2010).

Why he might not be annoying:

    He passed a chance to play in the Ontario Hockey League to stay with the U.S. Under 17 program to remain closer to his family in Michigan.
    He lists Mike Modano, a native of his hometown, as his favorite player growing up.
    He cracked the Canucks lineup as an 18 year old.
    He set career highs in all offensive categories after being promoted to the top two scoring lines.
    He is an avid car enthusiast.
