    The town's name is a misnomer as it is nowhere near a body of water.
    It was formed as a result of a dispute with the town of Calabash over civic service collections.
    It has extremely hot summers.
    Since it's located near the Atlantic Ocean, it is often prone to hurricanes and tropical storms.
    Upon separating from Calabash, it adopted its new name from the local golf and country club.

Why Carolina Shores, North Carolina might not be annoying:

    It made amends with the town of Calabash in the years following its separation.
    It is home to some of the most picturesque views in the southeastern corner of North Carolina.
    It is located along the highway to several of the most prominent beaches in the southeastern region of the United States.
    It is home to the Carolina Shores golf community, one of the more prestigious courses in the county.
