The Resume

    (April 13, 1909-March 31, 1997)
Born in Bridge of Allan, United Kingdom
    Episcopal priest and author
Possibly the greatest expert of the twentieth century on Patristics/the early Christian Church
Attended the University of Glasgow and Oxford
Books include; 'The Oxford Dictionary of Popes,' 'Early Christian Creeds,' 'The Athanasian Creed,' 'Golden Mouth: The Story of John Chrysostom - ascetic, preacher, bishop'
Full name: John Norman Davidson Kelly

Why he might be annoying:

Introverted and never married, he had almost no life outside of academia.
He never served as a pastor, spending almost his entire priestly career as a teacher.
To remain an Episcopalian, he had to disregard what the early Church taught about the authority of the Church and the Papacy.

Why he might not be annoying:

In addition to his work in Patristics, he wrote several well received works on the letters of the New Testament.
He taught at Oxford for over thirty years.
He oversaw the admission of women to Oxford.
He ticks off protestant fundamentalists who don't know or care who the Church Fathers were.
His works in Patristics show how far modern Christian theology has strayed from its early roots in areas like; the sacraments, church organization, and the interpretation of scripture.
