Michael Dell was only able to get the company off the ground with support from his family.
Their stock lost 25% of its value in one year (2005).
They missed out on the growing laptop market.
They spend too little on R&D compared to their rivals, which left them in the dark when things like MP3 players became huge.
They were surpassed by rival Apple, years after Michael Dell suggested that Apple should be scrapped.
Their customer service is awful. Unless you happen to live in India or El Salvador, where their call centers are.
They pledged to get rid of their toxic polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and brominated flame retardants (BFRs) by 2009 but whoops, they didn't.
Their laptops caught fire due to faulty Sony batteries (2006).

Why Dell might not be annoying:

They were one of the first computer companies to sell directly online (1996).
They have stated that their goal is provide the greenest PC on the planet.
