    Full name was Wifredo Óscar de la Concepción Lam y Castilla
    Son of a Chinese immigrant father and mulatto mother
    Fused Cubism, surrealism, and traditional Afro-Cuban Art into his works
    Attended Escuela de Bella's Artes in Havana (1918-1923)
    Fought in Spanish Civil War on the side of the Republicans (1936-1937)
    Painted 'Mother and Child' (1939), 'Anamu' (1942), 'The Jungle' (1943), 'Lisa Mona' (1950), 'Zambezia, Zambezia' (1950), 'The Third World' (1965-1966), and 'The Shadow of Days' (1970)
    Awarded Guggenheim International Award (1964)
    Died in Paris

Why he might be annoying:

    Many of his works have dark and brooding themes.
    Some of his figures have horse-like heads.
    He divorced his second wife. (1950)
    Like many of his countrymen, he claimed to be a Catholic while still practicing Santería.
    'The Third World' was painted to show his support for Castro's regime.

Why he might not be annoying:

    His wife and son died from tuberculosis, which explained the dark themes in his work. (1931)
    He made a lot of friends with other famous artists of his time, including Pablo Picasso.
    He depicted Afro-Cuban culture with dignity at a time when it was cheapened for tourism reasons.
    He sided with the common man in his paintings.
