    It is often overlooked by Orlando.
    In the late 1880s, it was damaged by a fire and infected by a yellow fever outbreak.
    Its citrus crops were destroyed by the Great Freeze (1894-1895)
    Its summers are hot and humid.
    It gained media attention with the shooting of Trayvon Martin (February 26, 2012).

Why Sanford, Florida might not be annoying:

    It used to grow celery as it earned it the nickname 'Celery City.'
    Babe Ruth, Jackie Robinson, Willie Mays, Tim Raines and David Eckstein once played baseball at Historic Sanford Memorial Stadium.
    Tennis player Jim Courier was born here.
    Naval aviation was trained at Naval Air Station Sanford until the air station was converted into Orlando Sanford International Airport.
    Its downtown area has an attractive setting with brick lined streets, tall oaks, stylish shops and 19th century style houses.
    It has a scenic waterway on Lake Monroe.
