Why he might be annoying:

He shaved five years off his age, claiming 1926 as his year of birth.
In addition to rhinestone-studded suits, he had Nudie Cohn design a pair of silver dollar-studded convertibles for him.
The guitar-shaped pool at his Nashville home was a tourist attraction (with nearly 3,000 visitors a week) until his neighbors, led by singer Ray Stevens, filed suit to end the tours.
Inevitably, one of his fan pages is dubbed 'The Webb Site.'

Why he might not be annoying:

His single 'In the Jailhouse Now' topped the Billboard country chart for 21 weeks.
He recorded the first country single to feature a pedal steel guitar.
He replaced Hank Williams at the Grand Ole Opry.
He invested wisely in publishing, radio stations and real estate, commenting 'I went into the business just hoping that one more hit would come up, and looking way ahead as to what I’d do when it was over.'
